Big Society Idea - Rewards For Teenagers+
THE IDEA: Pay or reward, post-education, unemployed teenagers for helping in the community
WHO: Eligible 16 to 19 year olds. Out of work, in receipt of benefits, in or out education
WHAT: Rewards for work scheme
WHEN: As and when direct funding received
WHY: Takes kids off the street, they work towards a wanted benefit or reward, they learn about business, interaction with individuals other than their own peers, community improves, youngsters feel valued, EMA
WHERE: Tewkesbury shops, businesses, PPN Projects, community work, charities,
HOW: Funds raised via PPNP charity. Volunteer will mentor youngster, TheSolution to organise fundraising and reward scheme. Suggest £50 a week or equivalent reward - Xbox game, mobile phone top-up card, petrol voucher, MacDonalds Meals, River Island, New Look etc gift card, Voucher to spend in Member Business, free nightclub pass etc. Funds via member businesses, Tewkesbury residents, direct debit either fixed £5 or £10 a month
ANY PROBLEMS?: Raising funds. Getting enough people to Volunteer. Will kids be interested? Tax, Benefits affected? Will businesses want to "employ"? Insurance aspect.

Nice idea and I don't wish to discourage innovation, especially where charity is concerned....but I reckon you'll find it difficult to get volunteers>Who wants to give up their time. I'm struggling myself and need all the time to go out and support my own family!! I'm afraid Charity begins in my own home
It's good that you're comming up with these ideas especially in this climate of cuts...like the rewards thing, rather than getting kids to volunteer. Could attract more individuals. Can c issue with the funding. Even at £10 month you're gonna need 20 people to support 1 youngster and that's without any costs and the kid just doin 4 days a month.
