Tips when Employing Tradespeople
- Be very specific about what you want and how YOU see the completed project
- Set out a detailed and clear plan
- Request a few quotes for comparison
- Ask for references. Speak to previous customers. Maybe ask to see previous work
- Ask friends and family for a recommendation on a job or service they have recently been pleased with
- Try and use a firm that advertises using a landline phone number
- Be wary of those willing to give you a mobile number only and no other contact details
- Pay for work as it's done. Don't shell out advance payments (although, if any materials/services etc need to be bought in advance, it's reasonable you are asked for some of these costs as the job gets done)
- Always use a written contract - it may offer some protection if anything does go wrong
- Agree in writing any changes before any any further or changed work or service is undertaken
- Cheapest aint always best! How well do you get on with the individual? Is their work/service a high quality? Good local reputation?
